About ReadGenie

Learning to read is not easy for every child.

Some children need more repetition. More review. More explicit practice. They may be able to sound out words but still read slowly, guess often, or struggle to retain the patterns they have already been taught. For children with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, that extra support can make a real difference.

ReadGenie is a reading and spelling practice app built for those children.

We created ReadGenie to give families access to short, structured literacy practice that is grounded in what research says helps struggling readers most. Our approach draws from structured literacy, Orton-Gillingham principles, and the Science of Reading.

The goal is simple: help children build stronger foundational reading skills through focused, repeatable practice that feels manageable day to day.

What ReadGenie is designed to support

ReadGenie is built to help children strengthen the core skills behind reading and spelling, including:

  • phonemic awareness
  • phonics and decoding
  • spelling patterns
  • connected text reading
  • repeated review for fluency and retention

We believe struggling readers do not need more noise, more guessing strategies, or more distracting screen time. They need practice that is clear, cumulative, and targeted to the skills they are still building.

Who it is for

ReadGenie is best suited for students in 3rd through 6th grade, with some use as well among struggling readers in 7th and 8th grade.

It may be especially helpful for children who:

  • have dyslexia
  • are behind in foundational reading skills
  • read accurately but not fluently
  • need more repetition to retain phonics patterns and spelling concepts
  • benefit from structured, step-by-step practice

Why we built it

We started ReadGenie because high-quality reading intervention can be effective, but it is often expensive, difficult to access, or hard to maintain consistently.

Many families are trying to support a child who needs more than what school alone can provide, but without a practical tool for daily practice. We wanted to build something that could help fill that gap.

ReadGenie is our effort to make evidence-aligned reading practice more accessible, more consistent, and more realistic for everyday life.

Our approach

We believe good literacy practice should be both effective and doable.

That is why ReadGenie focuses on short, structured sessions rather than overwhelming lessons. The app is designed to help children revisit skills, apply them in reading and spelling, and get the repeated exposure that helps learning stick over time.

Our work has been shaped alongside dyslexia educators and literacy experts, with a focus on supporting the children who need more time, more review, and more thoughtful practice.

Our mission

Our mission is to help more children become confident readers by making structured literacy practice more accessible at home and beyond.

We are building ReadGenie for the families, educators, and students doing the hard work of reading growth one step at a time.
